Your whale-watching tour departs from Kawaihae Harbor. Check in a little before the departure time at the Whale Center, which is located about five minutes north of the harbor.
From the Whale Center, hop on a shuttle bus for a short ride over to the harbor. Adults going on this tour should make sure to bring their government-issued ID with them.
At the harbor, board the catamaran, and find a seat. You can decide to sit inside the cabin or outside on the deck. Complimentary beverages, such as soda and juice, as well as snacks, are served throughout the cruise time.
As your boat takes off into the water towards the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Waters, your USCG-certified captain gives you a short safety orientation before the naturalist tells your group about humpback whales. He or she goes on to tell you how humpback whales communicate and lets you ask all the questions you’d like. If the weather permits, your captain stops your catamaran and lets you listen to the songs of the whales using an underwater hydrophone.
Sit and relax as your captain sails along to give you some of the best views of the whales. After your time is up on the ship, cruise toward the harbor as your crew docks your boat. Once you get to the dock, hop back on the shuttle bus for the quick ride to the Whale Center.
