Overview

There are few places in all of Hawaii more historic than Kealakekua Bay, as it's the spot where Captain Cook was killed in a skirmish with native Hawaiians, and the Hawaiian monarch, King Kamehameha III was born just a few miles away. The history aside, it's also one of the best places to snorkel on the Big Island of Hawaii, and you'll have the chance to experience the beauty on this snorkeling tour from Kona. Search for dolphins on the way to the bay while admiring the volcanic coast, and after scouring the red for coral and fish, climb aboard for a lunch that's served by the friendly crew.
  • Visit historic Kealakekua Bay
  • View Humpback whales in winter
  • Cruise the volcanic Kona coast

Captain Simon, Kawami, & Aiden made this a fun and informative adventure. This was our second trip on the Kona, we liked it so much. Snorkeling in the bay was beautiful and the close up stops on the way back were an added bonus. We will return again!

Company Canceled Trip at the Last Minute
Lynda_I
, May 2022
Our trip was cancelled with 35 minutes notice, supposedly due to "inclement weather and swells." However, the ocean was not rough and other boat companies were out. Our hotel was in Keauhou so we were able to see other boats. Frustrating, especially as it was our last day in Kona so we were unable to reschedule!

Good time, saw some dolphins at the start and some sea turtles. It was a bit of a long ride to the snorkeling spot but we saw a ton of fish and had a good time. The lunch was pretty good and was satisfied overall with the service.

Intimately special

This was a wonderful experience, the snorkeling was fantastic, a little scary but so worth it. Small note it’s a smaller boat manned by 2 man crew. Which made it intimate and surprisingly special.

Excellent time!

We had an excellent time! Highly recommended for families. For those who are curious, here is a breakdown of the day: We spent ~60 minutes sailing to a snorkel area at Captain Cook (and we saw a multitude of dolphins along the way!!); once we arrived at Captain Cook, we were provided the option (and gear) to snorkel for ~90 minutes. At the snorkeling spot, we saw a multitude of beautiful fish. Also during this time, we were given a complimentary lunch consisting of ham and cheese sandwiches, chips, granola bars, waters, and sodas (for those staying onboard or who just finished snorkeling). Once all were back on board, we then sailed for another ~60 minutes back to port. Of note: If anyone in your party is not interested in snorkeling, I would not recommend this excursion for you, as snorkeling is the primary feature of this excursion. Also of note, this is *not* a history tour, however a few bits of history are provided on the return back to the pier.

Great snorkeling tour!

We had a great time. Just the right amount of talking about the history with done humor along the way. Enjoyable snorkeling. Saw a turtle and tons of colorful fish.

Excellent Family Experience!
Stephanie_J

Simon and Aiden made the trip an excellent experience. They interacted with everyone on the boat the entire trip which in my opinion makes the experience better. My son absolutely loved Simon, he said they definitely deserve a 5 star rating which I think we all agree! On our way back we made several stops to learn about the history and even saw the spinner dolphins. Thanks for the great time!

Crew did a great job. The bay was fantastic for snorkeling, and we were lucky to see a big pod of dolphins, as well as a couple of turtles in the harbor.

Captain Simon and crew...
Leonel_U
, Apr 2022
Captain Simon and crew were super friendly, knowledgeable, and so nice to the kids on board. Food/snacks were good after snorkeling. Saw a lot of fish (trumpet fish, tangs, grouper, pufferfish, eels, and many more) and even a turtle at the reef. Perfect way to spend an afternoon with the family on the Big Island!
