Overview

There are few places in all of Hawaii more historic than Kealakekua Bay, as it's the spot where Captain Cook was killed in a skirmish with native Hawaiians, and the Hawaiian monarch, King Kamehameha III was born just a few miles away. The history aside, it's also one of the best places to snorkel on the Big Island of Hawaii, and you'll have the chance to experience the beauty on this snorkeling tour from Kona. Search for dolphins on the way to the bay while admiring the volcanic coast, and after scouring the red for coral and fish, climb aboard for a lunch that's served by the friendly crew.
  • Visit historic Kealakekua Bay
  • Search for and get in the water with wild dolphins
  • View Humpback whales in winter
  • Cruise the volcanic Kona coast
  • Lunch and snorkeling equipment included

Swimming with the dolphins

This was an awesome trip. Guides were very knowledgeable and fun to spend time with. Very accommodating and easy going. We saw whales on the start of our trip and were fortunate to swim with the dolphins on two occasions. They moved and we followed and were able to interact again. Everyone on our boat that entered the water was able to see and swim with theses beautiful animals. We end up in captain cooks bay where the snorkelling was as good as anywhere in the world. Lots of fish. Excellent lunch and a safe trip home. This is a 4-4.5 hour trip. Lots of time to search for sea mammals and to interact with them. I highly recommend Hang Loose boat tours. The highlight of our Big Island Vacation Gary

Great snorkeling band dolphin swim with wonderful guides. Only negative was the rough waters on the ride home, obviously not to be helped. I would recommend this company to go on a tour with, for sure.

Not as described.

The main reason I booked this “adventure” was to swim with the dolphins and our guides didn’t even try. They took us to Kealakekua Bay and along the coast and that’s it. Also departure was scheduled for 8am and we didn’t leave until 9am. The tour is advertised for 4 to 4.5 hours but ours was only 3. If you wanna swim with dolphins, go with a different company that actually makes that experience a priority.

The ocean was very rough and it was difficult to find spinner dolphins. After 3 tries we went to Captain Cooks snorkeling area. Area is easy swimming with lots of beautiful colored fish. Lunch sandwiches, snacks and drinks were delicious. Crew want helpful friendly and knowledgeable.
